First, do a search for "virus" and "trojan" on the forum to see what we have said in the past. That, of course is regarding antivirus apps that aren't mainstream. You shouldn't have the same problem with Norton unless you have a virus definition file that is VERY old.

So... chances are, you have a virus or trojan on your system. Best thing to do is uninstall mirc/Invision (and delete the folder) and then reinstall them. Invision does not have any virii, trojans, or backdoors as long as you get it from an official site and do not catch any from using it online (ie. downloading something you shouldn't).
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

Well, there is something happening that needs to be addressed by the author. There is something in this software that makes antivirus programs go nuts with detection.

For example:

My system is 100% clean. After installing the latest build of Invision, my Nortons antivirus 2005 lights up like a Christmas tree with Trojan horse detections. Now I'm not saying that the software is infecting the system. It could be a simple case of it using certain "watched ports" or old dll files that are know exploits. And yes, the download matches the checksum, my virus defs are updated as well.

Default Block Dmsetup Trojan horse
Default Block FC Infector Trojan horse
Default Block RASmin Trojan horse
Default Block Stealth Spy Trojan horse
Default Block Bla Trojan horse
Default Block Dark Shadow Trojan horse

etc etc etc etc....

Now I know it's just triggering the worm detection because of a flagged port being used or whatnot....but there needs to be a clear explaination on why this is happening. All the posts I've read here on the subject are blaming old antivirus software/definitions or a bad checksum for the installer ( as in modified ), and on and on.....

Explain the problems for people, and make it a sticky. Not hard.

How much clearer does it need to be?

Invision, when downloaded from an official source, does NOT have any virus/trojan/etc. Period.

1) Old, virus scanners and scanners that aren't mainstream detect an old DLL that used to be used in a virus and isn't actually a part of the virus (therefore it was removed from most scanners).

2) Norton is bad

3) Worm detection doesn't work no matter what scanner software you use. mIRC uses scripts. Worm detection detects scripts. Any script that does anything that could possibly be seen in a virus will be detected. I wrote a simple backup script and it was deleted immediately as a virus when worm detection was on. Don't use it.

4) Mark Invision as ignored on your scanner if the option is there.

Is that clear enough? This is nothing new that isn't in other posts. Norton should not detect anything, and if it does, then Norton's virus definition files are flawed. It's as simple as that.

yeah i used to get that annoying stuff, but never had any viri, i always get my invision download when cry0a floats up a new website, and usually, if gotten out of source, use the md5checksum, and wallah, of course, i always scan my files before executing. Invision itself has NEVER given me anything, and while using, in the background yaeh, some things LOOK like chodes, networms, netbios etc... but , in affect, its cuz your using an fserv, u r uploading, downloading, and you have tons of ports open, and its SAYING WHAT IT MAY BE< not what it is... DOH!
