Servers.ini file

Postby Autodesk » Mon Jun 27, 2005 11:44 am

unfortunately - with the way the scene has been the last year or so, people dissapearing from mIRC, so have servers that host us all - my servers.ini file list is becoming more and more unreliable and inaccurate. Of the dozens or so listed, only a couple will work. i do use the 3515 build, but cannot find any updated servers.ini file around. I did spend a couple hourse searching the forums and didnt see anything jump out and punch me in the eye. If i missed something or if you have any advice on how to obtain a very new list with some active servers - please respond.

As for the community - i think for the most part everyone respects the creators and all the hard work they have done and continue to do - i myself have lots of problems with my script, but dont hold anyone acountable - it is a beta release. Look at microsoft - its releases aren't betas and have lots more bugs let along security holes - and they get less complaints. I will tip my hat to the creators and mod helpers for continuing the strive for Invision perfection. Like the other 50 million or so (ok slight exaggeration) people who are looking for a new release, i wait patiently for whatever i can get.

The current servers.ini file is always available at http://www.mirc.com .

As far as problems, if you have them, ask and we can get your problems solved.
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

Servers.ini file

The only problem i have is that most of the servers in the list no longer work. They pop up sayiong a host of different reasons as to why - no answer, connection class i sfull, unable to connect or many others (that i cant seem to find in my logs) There is onlt 1 i think( Sterling.VA.US.UnderNet.org) that is in the US that i can connect to, and when i do i usually lag by almost a minute - every time. alot of the EU servers work, but even their numbers grow thin. I just hate to think it might all be due to the major world crackdown on warez.

Servers

Note: IRC isn't Warez and Warez isn't IRC. Don't confuse the two. A crackdown on warez will not affect IRC itself.

That stated, if you have the current servers.ini file from mirc.com, the servers DO work. Just because you have errors does not mean the servers don't work. Many errors are caused by things other than the server... such as being on a college campus and having to many people connecting at the same time with the same (college) IP. Other causes can be from a firewall/router problem to a modem problem to an ISP problem to many other problems.

The problem isn't your servers.ini file, if it's up-to-date... you'll need to look into what the real problem is. You might get a listing of all the error messages you get and go to mirc.com's forum and ask them why you keep getting all those errors.

I admit IRC goes alot further then just warez, sorry if my comments made it seem otherwise.

I now have the updated servers list, thanks for the link. Looking back it should have been self evident as to where to find it.... hindsight is always 20/20. Hopefully this new list will work better for me.

I must argue one point you made however,
'Note: IRC isn't Warez and Warez isn't IRC. Don't confuse the two. A crackdown on warez will not affect IRC itself. '

considering i use the Undernet servers for most of my IRC activities, the world crackdown on warez would certainly affect at least that small portion of IRC - it just happens to be the only portion i invest all my time in. I would suspect servers would want to distance themselves from any warez activity up to and including hosting an Undernet server. I could be wrong, but i assumed that was the reason for the shrinking 'Undernet' server list. In my original post, i mentioned 'sever list' but admit i should have posted 'Undernet server list'.

Yo, Our network has been up 6 months and has never been added to the server.ini list. So I have 2 questions. First how do we go about getting them to add our network?. Second when I have people goto mirc tools options > servers and add our network there why isn't that infomation automatically added to mirc tools> options > perform?

Why would it be added to Perform?

As far as getting on the servers.ini list, go to mirc.com and find the e-mail there and send a request. There is no guarantee of getting put in there.
