FAQ and Status of Invision

Postby XMog » Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:00 am

The short answer: Yes.

The longer answer: Yes, but development is slow. Coding/updating Invision is a hobby, done 100% for free (and always will be). As the people involved in development/testing get older, responsibilities increase. Other things in life begin to take priority, such as jobs and family. This leaves less time for casual hobbies, such as Invision.

The amount of time that has been spent building Invision so far has been enormous, and although recent development has slowed down, it has not come to a stop.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to update the main page (News) or the Downloads page, so they are stuck in their current state for now. New releases are posted here for the time being. They are completely legitimate/official, created by the same people that have been releasing updates for the past decade.

Due to an increased amount of spam, forum registrations are currently closed. If you need assistance or have a question/comment, please visit us in #Invision on irc.irchighway.net. I can also assist you there in creating a forum account here if desired.

As of the time of this writing, the current release is Invision v3.5.

The next release (v3.5.1) is currently in the final stages of testing. No date has been set, but it is on the way. Edit: v3.5.1 is now released.

This question has not actually been asked, but some people might be wondering.

Every piece of software handles version numbering differently. Invision generally takes a conservative approach to increasing version numbers. Even the large compatibility-breaking change to Unicode in Invision (to match the change from mIRC 6.x to 7.0) only bumped up the middle (second) number from 3.1.3 to 3.2. Invision v4 could represent a very large noticeable update such as a GUI rewrite, or it could just represent all the changes since v3.0 becoming large/significant enough to warrant a new version. There are currently no plans for an Invision v4 release, however it is not out of the question.

No, Invision is completely free. If you enjoy using the software and want to show appreciation or thanks for it, rather than send money, do something nice for a friend or family member! :P
