Annoying Typing Bug

Postby irwinz » Sun Feb 27, 2005 12:29 pm

I searched and couldn't really find anything on this, so I resorted to making a new post. I'll try to be as complete as possible.

I use Invision version 2.0 build 3515. When I'm typing a sentence or whatever, it will randomly not recognize a letter i type. For example: say i'm trying to type this sentence "I am cool". When I type it, it will go "I am col"

sorry if i'm being confusing. i was just wondering if there's any fix for it? i love invision but this is so annoying it's making me want to stop using it.

That's not an invision problem. It sounds more like either a problem with your keyboard, or you're missing hitting a key. Invision doesn't have any affect on what's typed. mIRC would, but that's not something that's a mIRC issue, either.

I'm not trying to contradict what you say, but I know for a fact it's not a hardware or manual typing issue. I used to use mirc, and I never ever had this problem. But when I'm typing in invision it happens all the time. I know it's not my typing and I know it's not my keyboard because I can type just fine on everything else (like this forum for instance).

Don't know what to tell you, then. Invision has 0 affect on anything being entered on the edit line of mIRC. Invision *can* affect what's displayed after you press the enter key (such as highlighting nicks so they look like "<nick> how are you?" ... but it doesn't touch what's actually typed on the edit line.

If you're talking about what's displayed *after* you press enter, then you could have another script running that's removing letters. For example, a spell checker script would replace misspelled words with the correct spelling after you press enter. Of course, that shouldn't be making words be spelled incorrectly unless the database of words is invalid. Other scripts can also affect what's displayed after you press enter. Invision shouldn't have any affect such as what you're suggesting... just with nicks, or removing color codes... that sort of thing. So I'd check to see what other scripts you might be running. You can also try reinstalling it using the script located on this site and see if you have the same problem. Sometimes a trojan can be hidden and still run. I've not heard of any that remove letters, but there are so many trojans running around out there that I certainly don't know all of them.

Well

What happens is, I'll be typing a sentence, and it will just like not register a key that I hit. It doesn't happen after I press enter, but before. It's kinda like my keyboard is broken. But it's not, I know that for sure.

Well...

Well, I can't help you with that because it has nothing to do with Invision. As I mentioned, Invision doesn't do anything to what's typed on that line. I'm not even positive if a script can do anything to that line, though I suppose a "hardcore" script might be able to. You might try checking on the mIRC.com forums. Maybe someone there has heard of that. It could be your keyboard and just be coincidence that it's not doing that in other places... no idea.

Well, thanks anyways for trying to help. That's real cool. But I've finally given up on trying to fix it, and have switched scripts (I'm now using NoNameScript and I miss invision so bad.) Kinda off topic but, do you have any suggestions of a good script that has the type of features that invision has?
