I've used Invision for awhile and have encountered many problems with the settings not saving and disappearing. I like this script so I decided to start from scratch to see if it was an installation problem. Here is the procedure I used.
1) Uninstall previous installs of Invision and Mirc.
2) Install Mirc.
3) Install Invision 3515
4) Install Invision update
5) Setup the settings the way I want including use global settings for all networks.
6) Backup settings.
7) Restart Invision and connect to a channel on a network.
Everything works until step #7. When I connect to a network I get this error.
* /hload: unable to open 'C:\mirc\Invision\Settings\irchighway\SettingsGlobal.i2s' (line 1263, ialias3.mrc)
The problem as far as I can tell is that there is no irchighway folder because this is the first time connecting to the network hence there are no settings to load.
Is this just a problem with Invision looking in the wrong place for the global settings? Here is line 1263 from ialias3.mrc.
hload %curtable [ $shortfn($mircdir) $+ Invision\Settings\ $+ [ $iSetwork ] $+ \ $+ [ %ftable ] $+ .i2s ]
Can someone please sort this out for me. These setting problems are a real pain.
Thank you.

Try *not* backing up settings. See what happens.
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

I redid steps 1 to 5 then tried to join a network and the same thing happened. I get the same error no matter what network I try to join. Upon looking at the settings while I am connected to a server there are absolutely no settings set. They are all blank!
If I check the global settings when I start Invision they are all still there. It is only when I connect to a network when everything gets screwed. If the "Use global settings for all networks" is checked, how can they be not used when connecting to a network?
Everytime I get the error it is looking for the global settings in the network subfolder that doesn't exist. The global settings are in this folder "'C:\mirc\Invision\Settings" and there are no subfolders for any networks. It really does seem like Invision is looking in the wrong location for the settings.
Any other suggestions?
Thank you.

Thank you. That seems to have fixed it. I no longer get that error and the settings for each network are there when I connect to them.
So what is that option for then? I would have thought that what it says is what it meant but I guess not.
Thanks again.

It is supposed to work, but apparently it doesn't work right all the time.
