The troubles you have with settings not sticking are, as we've said before, MOST likely, resulting from incorrect installation .. scripts are trying to load from paths which dont exist. However.. it seems you run fine for a while, then BOOM!

SupaDaSta raises a good point which we often overlook during troubleshooting .. gold star to you, hon :D

Whether or not you use SAVE ALL SETTINGS NOW.. you WILL lose settings by closing Invision before disconnecting (disconnect from EACH server you are on, not just the one you have your active window open on) .. Invision needs time to save settings for each server, before you shut Invision down. You may not lose ALL your settings, but you are somehow losing critical paths (this also explains why non-critical events - changing nick colors, etc, cause Invision to go screwy on you.. the path to the command isnt where Invision expected it to be.) NEVER close Invision (or any other IRC script for that matter) before disconnecting from all servers. You WILL lose settings. .. It can be likened to using Windows Task Manager and choosing End Process .. or when an app isnt responding, and you are warned that if you select END NOW you may lose settings.

And no, I dont think anyone else is having this much trouble with the latest build of Invision (3515) .. which is why we've assumed an installation problem. And perhaps now, due to incorrect shutting down of Invision.

Do let us know when you have Invision running smoothly tho, and how you suspect you solved your problem

Keep hangin' in there .. when all is running smoothly, you'll fall in love with Invision 8)

Same deal, hon .. you must manually disconnect from a server for settings to be saved .. the downside of this is, as you mentioned (and I forgot about ) is SERVER disconnections .. ie ping timeouts, etc .. can cause setting loss .. cRYOa is working on this.

On a side note: I used build 2520 for a LONG time (tho I started using Invision waaaaaay before then ) .. I've just upgraded to 3515 .. Kinda like going from WinME to WinXP .. you know all the features are there somewhere (some got moved around) .. and you have more new features. I think build 3515 is the most stable release yet, provided Invision is correctly installed, and that you sit on a stable server (not alwayz poss in IRC, I know) .. if you know that one of the servers you sit on can tend to be unstable, you could do what I do and install Invision into another directory (as a clean install) and run 2 instances of Invision .. all your stable servers using the first instance, and the unstable server (or any server/network you havent been on before, just in case) on the other instance of Invision. Hopefully, this way you only need to reset settings for the unstable server/network, and not EVERY server that you were connected to at the time.

Some if not all of these problems will be taken care of In the next release ( When its coming im not sure but we all can be patient and wait ) The settings routine WILL no longer save on Server Disconnects, Ping Time Outs or when you hit the Quit Button, Or if you hit the wrong damn red X and close the whole script down ( Though the hitting wrong X can be solved by pressing ALT+O then going down to Other and clicking on the Confirm Button ) The settings If still on track for these changes which I am sure they are will only save when you hit an Apply or AN OK Button on a Dialog, Or by going to Invision > Invision Settings > Save All Settings Now

Please Keep In Mind the Following Issues Below

1. When Using the Restore Previous Backed Up Setttings From what I have seen you need to be connected to the servers on which the settings loss has happend you will See

—I-n-v-i-s-i-o-n— Started Setting Restore Process! You should see another message notifying you when it's complete

—I-n-v-i-s-i-o-n— Loaded Globals

***** RESTORE COMPLETED! ******

After you have done this your Nick Colors will "NORMALY" go to grey in the Nick List you will Have to go too Invision > Main Settings > Hit APPLY (you will see all your colors return ) Then Hit OK Problem Solved.

2. If by chance you connect to the Same server more then once then your settings are corrupt and you will not be able to disconnect from one then re set your settings, If this happens you can 1. Restore your settings ( Havent Tested Much On this one ) 2. Delete that Network folder by DISCONNECTING from Invision then go into your Main Mirc Folder > Invision > Settings Folder > Delete the Network you have connected to more then once. After you have done this Reconnect and reset your settings. Your Done.

The settings issue has been here for the last few builds we are working on getting it taken care of when time permits. Please remember when posting here please post your problem and any errors you have seen, what you were doing when the trouble came about ( If it was during a net split, when you rebooted your script or if you have been on irc and BAM it happens ) you need to help us help you.

Sorry for writing a book but wanted to clear a few things up :D

Do *not* Save manually!

Postby Riamus » Sat Feb 07, 2004 6:37 am

From my tests, I have found this to be one of the main problems for people in 3515 (not in previous builds)... Do NOT save settings manually!

Saving settings manually tends to mess up your settings. This may not occur for everyone, but if you are having problems in 3515 with losing settings everytime you close Invision, try *NOT* saving manually. Just set up Invision and then disconnect from a server. Close Invision and reopen it to see if the settings stuck. If they do, then you know that the manual Save is the problem.

Note also that you *can* close Invision with Alt-F4 or the X in the top right corner without losing settings. When you use either option, Invision *does* save settings because mIRC has to disconnect from everywhere in order to shut down and so the Invision can do the saving as it does this. The people who are losing settings when trying this are probably the people who use manual saves.

Also, ping-outs and such will not cause you to lose settings as long as you have disconnected at least once after making changes.
