Invision Update?

Postby parker182 » Thu Dec 25, 2003 10:05 am

Are we going to go another year without updates.

cRYOa said he would release an update before Christmas.
I kept his word on that.

Christmas is now here, and leaving fast.

Don't you have anything to release to us?
Even a small update would be fine, anything.

cRYOa has been very busy and not all things go as well as planned when you make changes they have to be tested before they are released, when we are done testing im sure it will be put up after all we love this script and a little longer wont hurt 8)

Been since November 22nd last time we had an update.
It's now January 4th (5th for some across the world)

No update (yet)

Are you guys doing any testing? If so, send me a test version so I can help speed things up.

please, PLEASE don't make us wait any longer

You never even post here to give us a scope on the progress.

Many of my friends are switching over to different scripts. Excursion being the one they are all turning to.

Sorry for my impatience, or even my childish posts, but an update of Invision, or its progress is greatly appreciated.

My, my! So many ppl whinging!

I've found a build of Invision that I'm happy with, and yes, the first thing cRYOa says to me when I ask him a Q is "what build you running?" .. when I tell him, he says to update LOL .. Invision is a brilliant script, and yes, as with all new builds of any app there are bound to be bugs that need working on (remember when XP was first released? AKK!! bug city).

If you want to run the latest build of Invision, be patient with the patches/updates .. there are only so many hours in a day, and we all have lives outside IRC too. Change to another script, if you choose to, that's up to you, and your loss, as far as I'm concerned .. but whining about wanting updates wont get them any faster.

I'm really getting tired of waiting. What is cRYOa doing, sunbathing in Hawaii or sth?
I can understand maybe if you had a job that takes over your day and there isn't enough time to code, but you never tell us WHY the updates take so f*cking long.

It doesn't take long to just come on here and give us an explanation, an estimated release date, or some other kind of information, does it?

No, you just let us sit in silence, trying to help eachother out with bugs and problems we have, bugs and problems we wouldn't have to come here and ask about if you released an update with those bugs and problems fixed, since there are already KNOWN ways to fix them, it shouldn't be hard to pinpoint what's causing them.

It would really make my day, my week, hell, even my year if you (cRYOa) would reply here, and explain what exactly it is that takes so long for you to release an update. And please don't give me any crap about "We need to test it".
If you need to test it, let me see it. I'll test the !#@! out of it.

Calm down

Postby Riamus » Mon Mar 08, 2004 4:50 pm

It is posts like this which will eventually cause cRYOa to say forget it and stop updating at all. So don't waste people's time posting stuff like that.

Let's see... you say "if" he has a job. Well, what do you think he does to make a living? Sit around watching TV?

You say there are known fixes... this is only partially true. First off, most fixes you see are workaround fixes which are not really integrated into Invision. They need to be integrated into Invision's script itself for them to work as part of the script and not as add-ons. That takes time. Also, putting out a patch that includes only a few fixes isn't really useful unless the fixes are big. And the only fix that is really important to get done right now is the save settings fix... and that has not been solved even with a workaround.

So... sit back and wait just like everyone else. You try making a script as complex as Invision and keeping it constantly updated... you'll soon find out that putting out new versions all the time is not worthwhile. And you'll also find out how much you don't like hearing people complaining about a FREE program which you make no money from.
You can find me at #Invision on irc.irchighway.net or #OldGames on irc.undernet.org if you need me for anything.

ok, so I have to wait. I get it. No Problem.

Just let us know what's going on.

There is a reason for everything. I don't want your guesses, I want cRYOA's facts

And also, I really could care less if it was free or not.
If a price had to come with more updates, more often, with better features, I would pay in a heartbeat. I don't donate or pay, however, if I'm not sure it would really be used to expedite updates and features to us

Parker: I agree with you. There is no such thing as "too busy" to post a message here about how the progress is going.

Consider this: if a person is so reluctant to even tell what the progress is, that probably means that no progress has been made.

Cryoa is probably not even currently working on this, he instead chooses to do something else.

So when he decides to get to it, he'll get to it.

I agree as well. Invision development has been anything between slow to nothing for a long time now. The last few releases has not given us much. It could have been so easy for Cryoa to just add the bugfixes for 2520 to Invision and have an almost bugfree release at least.
I can see a good solution to this: Release Invision under GPL, register a soureforge project, and let L|B accept and apply patches.
I know I would contribute if I knew it wouldn't just be discarded work.

I do understand if Crya has too much to do irl, and don't have time for this. I would also undertand if he don't want to give his project away. The work he put down into this in the past is tremendous.

What u have said about the untimley releases is true. We appoligize for this as we know all of our loyal Invision Users have suffered, again sorry.

I have talked with cryoa about the settings issue that is currently a BIG issue on this latest build, We have also talked about What u see in the Bugs and Fixes section on the forum.

Some work has been done but not completed, cRYOa is Currently in a position to where he has very little time IRL to put more into it. But this is someting he loves and wants to see it grow and become the best of the best.

I will talk with him over the next few days and get an update as to the position that the script is in now and post here so u all will have an update.

All I ask is for you to keep up the wonderfull support, reporting, feedback and user support that all of U have done and together we can make it work. Thanks
